QUEEN CITY BRIDGE

Image
A haunting scene from the Bayou Teche. I half expected to see a woman with a voodoo headdress crossing over the bridge.

THE UNVAILING

I've often heard this said by the Atchafalaya  Swamper , today the swamps are as thick as soup.  This scene seems to fit that quote perfectly.

We hold on to memories as though losing them would be a catastrophe. But truth be told sometimes we don’t always remember the details in the right context. And that’s what’s so great about photography. A recorded history.

Swampy Trail

Image
It's been several years since I visited this area of Colorado. But only recently I found out that the actual name of the area is called Swampy Trail. I can't imagine why. But I will say that my traveling companions who are both Louisiana women could not have come up with that name either.

Lake Magic

It always feels like a gift given to me. It's just a little taste of home I always want to share.     On this morning the colors of Lake Martin were straight out of a Crayola box.   The egret waited and my thoughts were that this would make a great travel planner cover.

Early morning fog on the lake.

Misty Gazebo on Bayou Teche

Misty morning on the Bayou Teche.  It reminds me of the James Lee Burke novel Into the Electric Mist.

Lake Martin Wildlife Sanctuary

Most of the locals call this area around the lake Rookery Road.  At one time you could drive around parts of the lake and observe the nesting Roseate Spoon Bills and Herons as they raised their babies.  This photo was taken around sunrise and it wasn't long before the kayakers were paddling out from the boat launch.  Some were fisherman, some were photographers, and some like my-self (on dry land) were observers.  Cajun Swamp Tour specializes in boat tours on the lake.

St. Martin De Tours Church

Mother Church of the Acadians  The first thing the Acadians did when they stepped off the boat was to say a prayer of thanksgiving and then they danced.  This is a story that's repeated often, even to this day.
